X-Ray prescription by a Physiotherapist
Since May 2020, physiotherapists who have completed the mandatory training and obtained certification from the professional order of physiotherapists of Quebec (OPPQ) can now prescribe x-rays.
This agreement between the College of Physicians and the OPPQ allows you to obtain the care you need as quickly as possible.
The prescription of an x-ray by a physiotherapist is possible under the following conditions:
Pain is a result of a trauma (fall, impact, or accident);
No doctor was consulted previously for this problem;
The appointment with the physiotherapist is within the first 72 hours following the injury.

If these conditions are met, your physiotherapist will perform assessment and, if he/she deems it necessary, will give you a prescription so that you can have the x-ray. X-rays prescribed by a physiotherapist performed in a radiology clinic are covered by RAMQ..
If your x-ray shows a fracture, these results will be sent as quickly as possible to your general physician so that you can be treated. If you do not have a general physician, the results will be sent to the Clinique Médicale du Sud-Ouest and you will be treated as soon as possible.

Please note that after a major trauma such as an accident with a motor vehicle or a fall of more than 2 meters, it is strongly recommended to immediately contact the emergency room or go to the hospital.
