Having participated in various sports since high school, Monica has always had an interest in the human body and how it works. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Physiology, Monica continued her studies in physical therapy, graduating from McGill University with a Masters in Science Applied in Physical Therapy in 2012. Problem-solving and analytical thinking as well as the promotion of physical activity are some of the factors that led her to pursue a career in physiotherapy.
Since graduation, Monica has specialized in the field of orthopedics in the pediatric and adult population.. Working at the Shriners Hospital for Children has allowed her to work with children and adolescents with all types of musculoskeletal conditions, including torticollis, developmental gross motor delay, Legg-Calves-Perthes, toe walking, and flat feet. It has allowed her to develop the skills necessary to develop a treatment plan with the individual as well as with their family.
Monica is particularly interested in the Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) approach, which is based on education and exercises to provide the individual with the tools necessary to self-manage their pain. She became certified in the MDT method in 2017 and obtained her Diploma in the MDT method in 2023, which is the highest level of education in the method. She also has an interest in research, particularly with adolescents and pain. Monica believes that as a physiotherapist, it is her role to guide people in their path to recovery, finding active solutions to empower her patients to be in better control of their condition.
