Global Postural Reeducation (G.P.R.)

At our LaSalle, Montreal clinic

Improving alignment for a better posture, balance, and flexibility.

Active Solution Physiotherapy offers you the global postural reeducation specialty service to help you with a variety of musculoskeletal ailments.

WHAT IS IT?

As opposed to tradional approaches which often focus on the affected area, G.P.R. considers the body in its globality. With its origins in the Mézière Method, G.P.R. grounds itself in the concept of muscles organized in different chains and that when a link of this chain is disturbed - whether it be from poor posture, trauma, or overuse - it can lead to the development of compensations elsewhere in the body. These compensations bring about imbalances which, in their turn, can create pain, tension, or chronic musculoskeletal pathologies even after the area initially affected has healed.

The goal of G.P.R. is to diminish and heal your pain, increase your flexibility and overall mobility - aiming not only to improve your posture, but also to prevent flare ups.

WHAT CAN BE TREATED?

Global postural reeducation is a great option whether a person has chronic or acute pain, whether they are young, an adult, elderly, active, or sedentary. This type of practice follows the patient's own rhythm based on their breathing and involves the active participation of the patient.

G.P.R. can therefore help treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions such as:

Knee pain

Rotator cuff tendinopathy

Back pain

Joint pain

and more...

ASSESSEMENT AND TREATMENTS

Global postural reeducation is based on three basic principles : individuality, causality, and the individual in their globality.

These three principles inform the assessment and the treatment.

Assessment

During the first apointment, a comprehensive evaluation of your symptoms, muscular retractions, your posture, and your mobility will be completed. According to the results, a few specific postures for treatment will be chosen.

Treatment

During treatment, the progressive loading of the chosen muscle chains supported by appropriate breathing techniques and the manual therapy of the physiotherapist will seek to release tension in the different problematic regions. The aim is to improve mobility and function.

An active solution

To support the work done in a physiotherapy session, integration exercises will be suggested according to your needs.
