Gross Motor Developmental Delay treatment

Is my child's motor development normal?

If your child appears to be developing their motor skills slower than their peers, an experienced pediatric physiotherapist at Active Solution Physiotherapy Verdun will develop a treatment plan specifically for your your child.

WHAT IS IT?

Gross Motor Skills are large body movements - rolling, crawling, walking, running and jumping. Fine Motor Skills include grasping and manipulating objects. Any delay in attaining gross motor skills is referred to as Gross Motor Developmental Delay.

WHAT CAUSES IT?

There are many factors that can affect Motor Development:

Insufficient stimulation

Neurological problems (ie. Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Ataxia)

Cognitive delays

Diseases of the muscles

Vision problems

HOW CAN PHYSIO HELP?

After thorough assessment, an Active Solution Physiotherapy pediatric physiotherapist will identify the underlying cause of your child’s developmental delay. Through playful activities, your child will develop motor skills with practice, guidance and assistance from your physiotherapist. Together, you will learn to encourage and stimulate your child to achieve important gross motor development milestones (rolling, crawling, walking, etc.).
